At Sport + Spine, not only do we encourage our patients to push past perceived limits in hopes of reaching new goals, but we hold each other to the same high standards, always pushing forward, challenging each other to be the best version of ourselves.  It is with mixed emotions that we share the news that one of our beloved physical therapists, Laura Lund, will be leaving our S+S family and moving to Denver at the end of this month.  While we are sad to see her go, we know that amazing adventures, challenges, and opportunities await her there and we wish her nothing but the best.  However, we still haven’t decided if we are going to let her take Hattie, her friendly black lab who frequents the clinic and has become part of our family, too…the negotiations continue.

Hattie and Laura

Now a 6-year member of the Sport + Spine team, Laura arrived on the scene in 2011 after graduating with her doctorate in Physical Therapy from Rockhurst University.  Highly-motivated and passionate about her work, Laura treats her patients with the highest standard of care.  In addition to providing effective treatment and finding solutions to functional limitations, she also thoroughly addresses patient concerns, inquiries and goals throughout the process.  She connects with her patients on a personal level and motivates by example, always pushing herself, striving for the top.

Cathy & Laura - making strides with the help of the AlterG

A native of the KC area, Laura is ready to spread her wings and soar to new heights, figuratively and literally.  The mountains of opportunity in Denver are calling.  “This move is one of mixed emotions.  While I am very excited for this new adventure, it is hard to leave my family and friends, particularly this amazing Sport + Spine crew and all of my patients that I have had the opportunity to work with over my 6 years here.  You all hold a special place in my heart and have helped me become the PT/person I am today.  This is not good bye.  KC will always be my home!”  While Laura knows it will be incredibly hard to leave, she cannot ignore that need, that pull, to challenge herself with something completely different and new.

Laura hiking Machu Picchu

Laura is not a stranger to challenges or heights, for that matter.   Last summer, she set out with a close friend on an adventure to hike to the once-hidden Inca citadel of Machu Picchu situated nearly 8,000 feet above sea level in Peru.  It was an amazing, unforgettable, and character-building experience for her…and reinforced her desire to keep pushing herself beyond perceived limits, to seize new opportunities with gusto.

While she prepares for her move to Denver, Laura is still working diligently with her patients.  The top-notch care they deserve continues while she gradually transitions them to other members of our highly-qualified staff of PTs.  Patients can rest assured that the entire S+S staff is dedicated to making this transition a positive experience.

Laura Lund, you will most certainly be missed.  We wish you all the best with this new chapter in your adventure story.  It’s never the end, just a new beginning!
